Diversity

Rationale: In order to demonstrate effective teaching in my classroom, one must gain knowledge about the cultural differences in the classroom. Personally, I believe cultural, ethnic, and social differences in the classroom should never be ignored. These differences effect students' strengths and learning styles. It is important to understand that modifications can be made to help individual student learning. A students' background helps shape their identity. This can lead to a lot of questions at the elementary age. Accepting and respecting students exceptionalities, language barriers, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds is a key ingredient ti creating a classroom that is supportive of each student.

In the following assignments, one can see where I have demonstrated my commitment to accepting differences and celebrating diversity in the classroom. In my future classroom, we will be sure to respect everybody's differences. We will recognize that we don't look the same or come from the same places, but that is exactly why we need each other.

The following infographic is a great example of diversity. In the Book Other Kinds of Families the author discusses the importance of supporting and celebrating families that don't fit the stereotype society expects of them.

In the following assignment, one can see the importance of differentiation in the classroom. This is a great demonstration of knowing that each of your students come from a different background and learn best using various learning styles.

The following lesson plan was completed in a visual classroom using Zoom. Students in second through fourth grade across the United States gathered in a virtual setting to receive various lessons on forces and motion. This is a great example of preparing for a classroom with students from different backgrounds because we had to make adjustments as we learned more about each student.

STEM Camp Lesson

In the following assignment, one can see how differentiation goes further than how one is taught. Diversity in the classroom also depends on the time allotted to spend on content that matters.
