Professionalism

Rationale: In the classroom, it can be easy for a teacher to feel isolated. In order to demonstrate effective teaching in my classroom, it is essential that teacher communicate and collaborate. The significance of this standard is recognizing that being a teacher does not make you all-knowing. In fact, teachers are in an environment of continuous learning and self-improvement.  As a teacher, we commit to fostering student learning, research driven learning, and the mentoring of our professional partners. Teachers can gain a lot of positive insight from other teachers who have found a tool in their teaching. One's colleagues should be an asset in looking for ongoing classroom and school improvement. Auburn University has given me a great opportunity to work with my peers and communicate effectively across diverse backgrounds.

In the following assignments, one can see where I have demonstrated my commitment to collaborative learning.

In the following assignment, one can see my research done on the issue of privatization of schools. This is an example of furthering my own knowledge through research. It also highlights my ability to sort information in order to better interpret my own understanding.

In the following assignment, Breanna Jackson, a fellow student, and I worked to evaluate a lesson completed on number talks. Here, I devoted myself to collaboration and professionalism by working with a peer to examine the work of a national board certified teacher.

The following assignment is an analysis of a lesson completed by a National Board Certified teacher. While communicating with coworkers is a great resource, there are also a lot of wonderful online resources available to pull ideas from. This can help broaden our insight on using multiple strategies to benefit more students.
