Teaching and Learning

Rationale: In order to demonstrate effective teaching in my classroom, it is important to know that your students are constantly changing. I believe a teacher must support a student's intellectual, social, and personal growth. The significance of this standard is that students have much more going on in their lives than just what happens in the classroom. One must always remember that students that walk into the classroom are people first. In order to foster this standard, I believe it is important to develop respect and to create challenging and engaging lessons. While at Auburn University I have taken many courses that have helped me understand child development.

In the following assignments, one can see where I have demonstrated my ability to use student centered learning to increase the achievement of each student. In my future classroom, I will work hard to go beyond teaching just the material, and I will make sure my activities are engaging and include real-life examples.

During my time at Auburn University, I have devoted my studies to creating challenging and engaging lessons. In the following assignment, one can see how I use direct instruction strategies to capture student attention. This lesson plan on Rosie Revere overcoming challenges is a great example of supporting students' educational goals while also supporting their social and personal development

Similarly, the following lesson plan, showcases my ability to create engaging lessons. In this lesson the students are given fun tongue ticklers to help identify phonemes they hear in spoken words. Throughout the lesson, teachers ask questions to obtain student participation.

A piece of work that I am very proud of is the lesson plans that I have created as a part of the Auburn University Home Works program. While these lessons are engaging and fun, they bring a new element of flexibility as teachers learn how to combat teaching from home due to the COVID-19 crisis.
